Type conversion in Java

After having been working for an entire year programming a compiler, the exam comes, you read the task and modify your program in less than an hour and, finally, you reach the fun part: You don’t understand why the hell it doesn’t work properly and you spend the next three hours trying to figure out what is happening.

At that point, your mind is about to crack, you have checked all your code once and again, and you have tried everything… ¿everything? No!! What about type conversion in Java? Why the hell are you using…

…instead of using…

???

On the one hand, I felt relieved after having passed the exam. On the other hand, I’m still feeling stupid for having lost my time with such a stupid thing.
